Shortening
The chance of something happening becoming more likely. In betting terms, this means the reduction of odds (i.e. the odds become smaller). Odds can be shortened for a variety of reasons, often at the discretion of the betting operator. Possible reasons include new information coming to light that makes an outcome more likely, or when a lot of bettors place bets forcing a bookmaker to shorten the odds to ensure profitability.
