Project Description

Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia was established in 1939. Although created in a time of profound political and social turmoil, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia was capable of rapidly growing and becoming a strong driving force in the region’s social fabric, being an institution recognized as of Public Utility.

In these last 80 years, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia has supported the physical and civic education of thousands of young children through a varied offer of sporting disciplines, with a strong focus on the core values of sport: integrity, solidarity, tolerance, respect, hard work.

Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia strongly believes that sport is a very powerful tool of integration, allowing people, regardless of their sex, age, social background or economic status, to channel their hopes in a constructive way. Due to a strict implementation of this strategy, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia plays a key role in the cultural identity of the region of which it is part and has become a strong element of social cohesion. An interesting example of this is the sport equipment of every sporting discipline of Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia, colored in yellow and blue, representing the sunny district of Cascais and one of its most outstanding features: the coastal areas and beaches.

By encouraging the regular practice of sport by all people in society – particularly children –, and, thus, helping spread the core values of sport, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia and all its staff, many voluntarily, has tried, throughout its history, to contribute towards the creation of a more just and equal society. Currently, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia is a multisport club enjoying sporting facilities that allow around 2,000 people to practice sport in 19 different sporting disciplines.

With a strong focus on youth training, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia accepts its role, not only in preparing better athletes, but also in engaging youth to develop a values-based mindset that will last a lifetime and developing appropriate educational tools to engage and empower young people.

In 2018, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia accepted the United Nations’ challenge to implement the Sustainable Development Goals and help contribute to achieving a better and more sustainable future for all, becoming the first sport club in the world to do so.

Among other examples, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia committed to encourage the participation of athletes in volunteer work, strongly develop women sport and sport for all programs, increase the number of women participation in its governing bodies, develop an Elite Program with young children from other countries that want to practice sport and take significant steps towards the environment sustainability of its activity.
